Abigail Lane's work is concerned with the representation of the trace, and with the potentiality of clues or forensic evidence. The trace or imprint provides an identity, one that can be artistic subject in itself and the clue to an event that might have taken place. Along with evidence there is always a story, a narrative of some sort. Lane's work offers up only the clues, leaving the viewer to imaginatively reconstruct this history from him-or herself.

Abigail Lane participated in Damien Hirst's 'Freeze' exhibition in 1988, and graduated from Goldsmiths College in 1989. In 1986, Lane had a one-person show at the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht. She recently participated in the 'Material Culture' exhibition at the Hayward Gallery, London.
